For decades, Dr. Jeffrey Bland has been on the cutting edge of Functional Medicine, which seeks to pinpoint and prevent the cause of illness, rather than treat its symptoms. Managing chronic diseases accounts for ¾ of our total healthcare costs, because we’re masking these illnesses with pills and temporary treatments, rather than addressing their underlying causes. Worse, only treating symptoms leads us down the path of further illness.
In The Disease Delusion, Dr. Bland explains what Functional Medicine is and what it can do for you. While advances in modern science have nearly doubled our lifespans in only four generations, our quality of life has not reached its full potential. Outlining the reasons why we suffer chronic diseases from asthma and diabetes to obesity, arthritis and cancer to a host of other ailments, Dr. Bland offers achievable, science-based solutions that can alleviate these common conditions and offers a roadmap for a lifetime of wellness.
“The godfather of functional medicine elegantly explains the core tools to overcome the chronic ailments of modern society.”- Mehmet Oz, MD, Emmy Award-winning host of The Dr. Oz Show

Jeff is the scout who has been out in front of the 21st century pioneers in medicine and health innovation pointing the behemoth carriage of contemporary medicine towards a more compassionate and comprehensive healthcare destination. His new book, The Disease Delusion: Conquering the Cause of Chronic Illness for a Healthier, Longer and Happier Life, in true Jeff Bland fashion commingles the science behind the innovative movement of functional medicine with an illustrative description of the intellectual history and personal odyssey of his four decade journey of inquiry. His book is a rich stew of all that is needed to both understand and apply what he has learned in his journey. Finally, please pull your chair up to the table with an anticipation of a toothsome and health promoting meal.”-David Jones, MD
“What the personal computer revolution did for old-fashioned mainframe computing--empowering us all--is what functional medicine is doing for healthcare; and if there is a Steve Jobs of functional medicine, it is Jeffrey Bland--visionary, innovative, and perennially two steps ahead.”-Dale E. Bredesen, MD
If you have already read The Disease Delusion, you’ll recognize Justin’s story from the opening pages. Born prematurely in 1982, Justin—Dr. Bland’s youngest son—was half the birth weight of his two older brothers and needed special care in the neonatal intensive care unit before being allowed to come home. At three months of age, he developed hydrocephalus, a very serious condition involving swelling of the brain that required surgery to reduce the pressure. As Justin grew up he received the best of traditional medical care from very skilled and compassionate professionals, but there were continued signs of perceptual and learning challenges.
Today, as you will see in this video, Justin is not only healthy, well, and thriving, he is also gifted with the power to tell his story to others—his early developmental challenges, his lifelong regimen of personalized health management, and his successes (so many!).
“Dr. Bland’s book should be a textbook in medical schools all over the world. It can change your life.”- Alejandro Junger, MD, New York Times best-selling author of Clean and Clean Gut

• Bag lunches full of vegetables?
• No cookies? (Well, except for the occasional cheat…)
Today, yes—all of these practices are common, encouraged, and celebrated. But in post-WWII America, Marjorie Bland was a suburban rebel mom in her own right. But more than this, his book presents us with an elegant system for stemming this flood of disease and enabling us to live lives that are vital and healthy.”—Brian Berman, MD
“The Disease Delusion provides critical insight into how environmental exposures to physical, chemical, and behavioral factors are linked to disease susceptibility through alterations in the epigenome, not simply in the genome. This revolutionary expansion in our understanding of the genesis of diseases promises to provide us with completely new approaches for preventing and treating human pathological conditions in the 21st century.”—Randy Jirtle, PhD
